In Spot On… we would like to introduce our colleagues to you. This time in the spotlight: Sigrid Koeleman, Content Coordinator/Advisor at Babbage's in-house agency for communication & content.
“Contributing to the success of an organization, that's what I do it for."
After more than 25 years of experience in the magazine world, where she worked as editor-in-chief and developed concepts, Sigrid found her way to Babbage. “In the magazine world, I was always busy with the combination of text and image,” says Sigrid. “I really enjoy the creative side of my profession. I was a freelancer for years and missed working in a team. As a freelancer, you often fall by the wayside. You have clients, but you don't really belong. When I saw the vacancy at Babbage, I knew immediately: this is what I am good at and enjoy, but at a company. And Babbage appealed to me immediately. The atmosphere, the click, the attention to people – everything felt familiar right away.”
As Content Coordinator/Advisor, Sigrid is part of Bureau Babbage, the in-house agency for communication and content. The team consists of five professionals who together provide communication advice, campaigns and content for various clients. Sigrid is mainly involved in content strategies and content production – from articles and annual reports to social media.
“As an agency, we can offer everything under one roof,” Sigrid continues. “It all starts with understanding the question. Why do you want to communicate? What do you want to achieve? Do you want to inform, encourage action or build a reputation? How do you connect with the world of your target group? Do you know their wishes, feelings and problems? Organizations often communicate without a goal. It is important to first get answers to these questions. Then we help organizations to create content structurally and smartly based on their core story.”
Sigrid continues her story: “We mainly work for government and semi-government organisations, such as ministries, municipalities, Hogeschool Inholland, the COA and the Tax and Customs Administration. We offer all kinds of communication solutions; from a single article to complete processes. Whether it concerns temporary support for webcare, the rewriting of a council document in B1 or the implementation of campaigns. We offer the extra hands or expertise you need, with proven (government) experience.”
What is Sigrid most proud of at Babbage? “That I am truly part of a team and can create something beautiful for the client. I am only happy when the client is too. And then it doesn’t matter to me who the client is or what the assignment is. What matters to me is that I can contribute to the success of the organization I work with. And that you do that together in a positive way.”
Babbage fully supports Sigrid in her development. “At Babbage I am given the space to continuously grow, with annual goals and support through training and workshops. Now I focus on improving my advisory skills. This way I can better transfer my knowledge and get others on board with my conviction. If a client is hesitating between solution A and B, and I know that A is the best choice, I can say: 'A is much better.' But I prefer to ask: 'What do you see with A and what with B?' This way I take them along in the process, so that they ultimately choose A themselves. It is not just about knowledge, but also about the ability to make people see why a choice is the best.”
