The Zwolle city council has decided: from New Year's Eve 2025 to 2026, the city will be fireworks-free. But a ban doesn't automatically mean a change in behavior. How do you address the resistance of residents who see fireworks as an indispensable tradition? And how do you ensure effective communication without leading to resistance and confusion?

How does the day out?

What you learn:

  • Which behavioral determinants such as tradition and the social component play a role in whether or not the ban in Zwolle is complied with;
  • How to use techniques like 'recognizing resistance' and humor to break down psychological resistance to the ban;
  • How to create support among different target groups by activating values such as 'benevolence' (understanding and compassion) and 'universalism' (environmental awareness).
