Your development is central. We at Babbage find that very important. Secondment combines the stability of a permanent job with the variety of project-based work. This way you are part of a permanent team, but you are continuously challenged on interesting projects. A lot of variety, so how do you deal with that? Ingrid Sikking, independent coach and trainer, provides our Communication Consultants who work on the basis of secondment with training in the field of personal leadership. 'We consider the questions: what do I need? What do I need to be able to function well?'

The first training Ingrid gave to the Communication Consultants was the general training ' Know Your Strengths and Pitfalls '. As a result, a complete training program was developed. She explains: 'Based on the feedback from the first training, we put together the rest of the program. In total, the program consists of four training sessions and individual coaching.'

Types of training

'In the training on personal leadership I cover the so-called soft skills,' Ingrid continues. 'Examples are: know your assets and pitfalls, give feedback, increase your influence on the work floor and deal with deadlines. The seconded professionals also get the opportunity to have a number of coaching conversations. These are 1 on 1. I first have an intake conversation, in which we get to know each other and formulate a coaching question: which theme do you want to work on? This way we can work very specifically on a theme that is relevant at that moment.'

Taking good care of yourself

Why is developing these soft skills particularly educational for seconded professionals? Ingrid explains: 'As a seconded professional, you need to be able to respond well to the various questions that arise on the work floor. The professionals have their antennas out, they are flexible and see what is needed. During these training courses, they also learn to take good care of themselves.'

'The program is very practice-oriented,' Ingrid continues. 'They can start working with what they have learned right away. I notice that it is appreciated that this program is offered. The participants also find it fun and useful to exchange experiences with other seconded professionals. And they like to be able to spar during the 1-on-1 coaching and to get started with a theme that is important to them in order to develop themselves further.'
